ETF Analysis and Discussion

Stocks

This week sees no change in our allocation to stocks. Friday saw strong movement in both VTI and VXUS after comments made by Fed President Jerome Powell. We will be watching both ETFs closely as we continue to move through the traditionally weak months of September and October.

Bonds

BND and BNDX are continuing to underperform stocks and are not being considered for inclusion into the model portfolio at this time. Long dated US Treasuries, as followed by EDV, are continuing to move lower as market participants are not sure if or how many rate cuts the Fed is considering as we move into the end of the year.

Real Estate

VNQ ended the week as the best performing ETF in our model for the week with a gain of 3.68%. Despite its performance for the week, its gradient score is still too low for inclusion into the model portfolio but we will be monitoring VNQ closely. VNQI is continuing to show strength and it’s continues to trend higher. VNQI finished the week as the second best performing ETF in the model with a gain of 1.76% for the week.

Commodities, Digital Assets and the US Dollar

PDBC continues on in a directionless fashion. IAU is seeing an orderly consolidation after a prolonged strong uptrend. Such price action is healthy. IBIT found support at a popular moving average and is moving higher together with stocks. Finally, UUP is still struggling to move higher after finding support at a recent price level. It is not being considered for inclusion into our model portfolio at this time.

That’s all for now. Until next time, be well and stay safe!
